Our guide in his solo canoe
The brown in the mountains are trees killed by wildfire that raged earlier in the year. A scout must be careful with fire at all times!
Lunchtime for Larry, Mo, and Curly, but which is which? Sorry, guys, but I could not resist!
The boys (and one adult) find a more adventurous spot to eat lunch.
The mountains make a perfect backdrop for our canoe experience!
Dealing with rapids can be a lot of fun!
After a long day, time to enjoy a campfire.
A nesting Bald Eagle, which we could see on the mountain across the creek.
Breakfast cooked over the campfire...delicious!
By the second day the boys were learning to be efficient.
Embarking on the second day of canoeing.
Time for our lunch break.
What are those boys up to?
Playing in the water...again!
What a find, a salamander.
A side trip that was challenging, fun, and definitely interesting!
A Great Blue Heron. The beauty of their flight is simply awesome!
Rafting up for final instructions
Sunday's Mandatory Ice Cream Depot.
The pine needles along the ground were so dry that they ignited just from touching the fire ring. We had to put them out and clear out the area so we would not cause a fire. This was a great example why we don't play with fire, and why we must be careful when we use fire for cooking or just enjoyment.
We had a Mandatory Ice Cream stop each day. It was a Mandatory Ice Cream Stop that was Optional, because if you wanted some that's why you had to stop, or at least that's what we told everyone. No, yogi Berra was not on this trip.
