If a Scout wishes to take a merit badge, they must first find another Scout (the counselor must have at least 2 boys taking the class) then discuss it with the Scoutmaster who will contact the Troop merit badge counselor. For merit badges that do not have a Troop counselor the Scout should try to earn the Merit Badge at summer camp or Merit Badge College, or the Scout may contact the Scoutmaster and the Troop Committee will begin a search for a suitable Merit Badge counselor.
